Each year Sensible Minnesota researches and writes petitions to add medical conditions to be added for medicinal cannabis treatment in Minnesota’s Medical Cannabis Program. Sensible Minnesota has successfully petitioned for the inclusion of PTSD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Petitions to add a new condition or delivery method may be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Health, Office of Medical Cannabis, from June 1st to July 31st of each year. A seven member review panel of patient advocates and healthcare professionals hold public meetings, and perform a review of each petition and suggest which are appropriate for approval, the following months before December 1st– when the Health Commissioner of Minnesota decides which petitions to approve or deny.
Traditionally, the review panels have been in September and October. The panels are open to the public; members of the public may give testimony during the panels. The public may also submit letters in opposition or support for any of the petitions to OMC.
For approved conditions, patients may begin registering the following year in July, with medication available in August. Approved delivery methods will be available the following year, in August.
